Rules
- The Contest, organized in collaboration with the National Museum of Science and Technology Leonardo da Vinci, is dedicated to XR documentary works (VR, AR, MR), both linear and interactive. Eligible topics include themes related to the globalized world, science, technological innovation, extraordinary individuals, collective models, and stories related to scientific and natural fields.
- Documentaries completed after January 1, 2024, are eligible to participate.
- Language and Subtitles: International works must be presented in English. If the original language is different, English subtitles are mandatory.
Technological Requirements Works must be compatible with at least one of the following devices:
- Standalone: Meta Quest 2 or Meta Quest 3.
- PC VR: Meta Quest 2 connected to a PC with the following specifications: CPU Core i9, GPU GeForce RTX 3070Ti Edition 8GB (or similar performance), RAM 32GB, Windows 11 Pro.
The following are accepted:
- 360° videos and interactive XR works (3DOF or 6DOF) of any duration.
- At the time of submission, the format of the documentary (VR, MR, AR) must be specified.
- For 6DOF room-scale experiences, the required physical space dimensions must be specified upon submission.
- Any other formats must be agreed upon in advance with the Festival Management.
Submission of Materials
- Videos/software must be sent via a downloadable link and accompanied by a technical data sheet.
- Please indicate whether the material is available on platforms such as the Oculus Store, Steam, or others.
Archive Copies Authors and producers of immersive projects presented at the Festival are invited to donate a copy of the work. This copy will be stored in the archives of the Fondazione Museo Nazionale della Scienza e Tecnologia Leonardo da Vinci in Milan and used exclusively for study and documentation purposes, with no commercial use, thus safeguarding the interests of the authors and producers.
Awards and Jury
The jury, composed of the public who will experience the XR works, will award a prize of €1,000.
The Festival Management reserves the right to nominate additional prizes and juries for the 2025 edition.
Entry procedures and requirements
Every film must be submitted through the online registration procedure ‘ENTRY FORM’ available on this site.

Those who want to participate in the competition must, no later than May 31, 2025, complete the ENTRY FORM following the procedures indicated and sending the relative materials requested in the entry form. The link and password must remain open and active at least until the end of the Festival.
Participants will be notified of their selection by June 30, 2025.
The entry will be accepted if all the requested materials and information are received within the required deadlines. After completing the entry form you will receive a confirmation email. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
No screeners or application material will be returned.
Submission fees
Submission fee for the VR contest preselection is 30 euros Vat included.
The fee covers the administrative expenses related to cataloguing and previewing each film.
Registration for the pre-selection is considered valid and effective when the candidate has fulfilled the rules and requirements of the competition, when the screener link has been uploaded, when the entry form with all the required information has been correctly filled in and when the registration fee has been paid.
Incomplete applications will not be considered. Submissions not complying with the submission fee payment will not be considered. Submissions fees are not refundable.
No film will be taken in consideration for preselection prior to the submission’s fee receipt.

Selected documentaries
The selection of documentaries is at the sole and unquestionable discretion of the Festival Management. The directors are not required to provide comments or feedback on the films submitted, either to the applicant or any other representative of the work.
Once the official invitation has been accepted by the participant, the documentary cannot be withdrawn from the official program. Programming decisions, such as category/section placement, screening times, and locations, are determined by the Festival directors and are final and non-negotiable.
Files of the selected works must arrive in one of the listed formats in Milan no later than July 20, 2025, via link or physical support, following the instructions provided by the Programming Office.
Producers and distributors of films presented at Visioni dal Mondo commit to displaying the official Festival logo on the film’s promotional materials (including posters, trailers, social media, and web content) and on the screening copy of the film. They must also mention the film’s participation in the Festival and, if awarded, the prize received, following the official graphic guidelines provided by the Festival’s Programming Office.
General rules
These regulations are drafted in both Italian and English. In the event of interpretative issues, the Italian version shall prevail.
The Festival shall not be held responsible for any “intangible” losses suffered by the director, producer, or distributor in the event of technical issues during the screening.
In the event of loss or damage to the copy, the Festival’s liability shall be limited to the replacement cost of the copy according to the rates in force in Italy.
It is the responsibility of producers, distributors, or other entities submitting the documentary to ensure they are legally authorized to submit the work to the Festival. By submitting the documentary, the participant declares to hold all copyright and authorship rights (including those of any co-authors who do not intend to participate), including those related to any copyrighted material included in the documentary.
The Festival cannot be held responsible for the unauthorized inclusion of any copyrighted material in or related to the submitted documentary.
The Festival reserves the right to disqualify any documentary that contains unauthorized copyrighted material.
Submitting an application to the Festival implies unconditional acceptance of these regulations.
Upon selection, the Festival has the right to:
- Use all promotional materials related to the documentary to promote the Festival.
- Retain a copy of the documentary in its archive for non-commercial, educational purposes.
The Festival Management is the only authority authorized to make decisions on matters not covered by these regulations. For any disputes, the Court of Milan shall have jurisdiction.

Hospitality
The Festival offers free hotel accommodation for the director of each selected documentary. Only the city tax (€4) will be charged to the guest and must be paid directly by them. Hospitality is valid for one person (the director) for one or two nights at the hotel affiliated with the Festival.
In the case of two or more directors for the same documentary, the Festival Management reserves the right to communicate accommodation details after the selection. After selection, the Festival will provide all necessary information regarding accommodation arrangements.
