Listening with your eyes the theme of the 2023 edition

Milan, 22 Febraury 2023. The 9th International Documentary Festival Visioni dal Mondo, conceived, founded and directed by Francesco Bizzarri with the artistic direction of Maurizio Nichetti, scheduled to take place in Milan from 14 to 17 September 2023, officially opens the calls for entries, available from today on the event website www.visionidalmondo.it.

The Visioni dal Mondo Festival, the eagerly awaited appointment with the cinema of reality now in its ninth edition, confirms also for 2023 the important Industry Visioni Incontra section dedicated to business and aimed at industry professionals. Visioni Incontra, curated by Cinzia Masòtina, head of advisory and coordination, will be held on the first two days of the event, Thursday 14 and Friday 15 September, and will include pitching sessions of projects that will take part in the competition for the best documentary project Visioni Incontra and will host one-on-one meetings, panels and roundtables, reserved for Italian and international decision makers in the industry.

The contests:

• Italian Contest dedicated to Italian filmmakers with 2 categories – unreleased features documentary films, over 50′ in length; and new talent dedicated to debut works, with no duration limit, completed after 1 January 2022.
• International Contest dedicated to foreign independent productions with features documentary films longer than 65′, completed after 1 January 2022.
• Visioni Incontra Contest with the categories Work in progress, projects already in production or in post-production, and Final development, projects already developed that are in pre-production or have just started production.

“Listening with the eyes” is the theme that in its broadest sense will guide the 2023 edition of Visioni dal Mondo.

“Listening with the eyes” intends to emphasise the etymology of the word listening, that is, listening attentively, paying attention, observing, perceiving, feeling in order to understand, learn and increase one’s experience.

Each individual, even without being conscious, without realising it, when watching a video has this kind of experience and “Listening with the eyes” is an effective synesthesia to stimulate everyone to tune their mind, eyes and heart so as to live intensely and deeply understand the documentary films that recount life, events, changes with a completely free audio-visual language.
