Milan, September 16, 2024. The 10th International Documentary Festival Visioni dal Mondo, founded and directed by Francesco Bizzarri with artistic direction by Maurizio Nichetti, has concluded after transforming Milan into the documentary capital from September 12th to September 15th. The festival took place at Teatro Litta, Cineteca Milano Arlecchino, the Museo Nazionale Scienza e Tecnologia Leonardo da Vinci, and streamed online on the official Festival website www.visionidalmondo.it through the dedicated Italian streaming platform MYmovies.

The Award Recipients of the 10th International Documentary Festival Visioni dal Mondo:

The 2024 Visioni dal Mondo Best Italian Feature Documentary Award (€5,000), selected by a distinguished jury including Domizia De Rosa (President of Women in Film, Television & Media Italia), Giannandrea Pecorelli (film and television producer), and Gianfranco Rinaldi (film law expert), went to “WANSATI – AS FLORES DO MUNDO” directed by Alessio Garlaschelli. Motivation: For its attentive, sincere, and non-invasive depiction of a special love story between a group of young women and rugby, still often seen as a male-dominated sport, which becomes a symbol of finding one’s place in society.

The 2024 Visioni dal Mondo GKSD Investment Holding New Talent Opera Prima Award (€2,500), judged by students from Milan’s top film schools, was awarded to “FUOCHI” directed by Ruben Gagliardini. Motivation: For its versatile portrayal of Sardinia’s relationship with fire, enhancing its symbolism through various communication techniques, while courageously documenting a captivating folkloristic element of nature, despite the inherent dangers.

The Rai Cinema Award, dedicated to Franco Scaglia, was given to “FEMMENELL (CHIC E FAVOLOSO)” directed by Andrea Fortis. Motivation: For crafting a narrative deeply rooted in Neapolitan culture, showcasing its unique blend of sacred and profane elements, always embracing and transforming everything into a message of inclusivity.

The 2024 Visioni dal Mondo Best International Feature Documentary Award (€3,000), judged by an international jury consisting of Heidi Gronauer, director of ZeLIG – School for Documentary, Television and New Media; Bettina Hofmann, co-director of the documentary division at RTS – Radio Télévision Suisse (French-speaking Swiss television); and Gudula Meinzolt, an international producer, was presented to “PHANTOMS OF THE SIERRA MADRE” directed by Håvard Bustnes. Motivation: We were drawn to the originality of this film. It chronicles a journey that transforms the filmmakers’ perspective from a somewhat simplistic Western viewpoint to a deeper, more nuanced understanding of the “other.” Their quest to find the Apache people, whom they believe may still exist, tackles the issue of cultural appropriation in a profoundly personal manner. The filmmakers present challenging questions through powerful visual storytelling, making this a highly relevant and timely piece.

The 2024 Amici Cineteca Milano International Competition Award, which is awarded by a jury of Cineteca Milano Arlecchino subscribers, was given to “LA SCOMPARSA DI BRUNO BREGUET” directed by Olmo Cerri.

The Visioni VR Award 2024 (€1,000), judged by the public, went to “LOU” by Martine Asselin and Annick Daigneault.
