Concorso italiano – New talent opera prima
Brief Synopsis:
Originally admitted as a project at Visioni Incontra in 2023, “Ugualmente Diversi” tells the story of Lorenzo, Andrea and Gabriele, three waiters who work in a well-known pizzeria in Italy run by young people with autism. The lives of the three protagonists are intertwined with those of the students in their last year of Sacro Cuore high school. The students learn the profession of waitressing, but also begin to understand more on diversity, equity and equality. The film leads to an unexpected reversal of roles and leaves us with a question: “What does diversity mean today?”
Director’s Notes:
I chose to tell this story because I am the mother of children with dyslexia and ADHD, with a journey of acceptance of their characteristics, of difficult adaptation in a school environment based on a standard from which they differed, as did their mother. This film is a positive way of telling differences for a cultural evolution and outlook for everyone, especially for those who still consider themselves ‘normal’ compared to someone else, and it is also meant to be accessible in cinema for people with hearing and visual impairments.
