Italian Contest – Feature Film
Brief Synopsis:
The story is interpreted and written by the inmate-actors of the theater company of the “Torre del Gallo” prison in Pavia. Led by theater therapist Stefania Grossi, the actors work on an original play based on the stories of Polybius, in which the utopia of Hannibal’s journey, told by the defeated and the guilty, challenges us. It awakens us from the torpor of the certainties of the righteous and the victors. As the company’s work takes shape, the camera, exposing itself to the landscape, searches for traces that become signs, as a relationship and echo of a story that, recited aloud, has already overcome barriers
DIrector’s Notes:
“Corpi Docili” is a documentary film shot mainly on stage and in the spaces dedicated to the theater workshop at the Torre del Gallo prison in Pavia. The theater therapy workshop led by Stefania Grossi is aimed at “protected” inmates, those who cannot live in common sections due to crimes against the ethics of the majority of the prison population. This condition, often associated with longer detention times compared to “common” inmates, unites the members of the theater company USB (Men Without Barriers). In the theater, they have found not only moments to make detention less stifling but also a therapeutic and expressive tool of great value.
