Short Synopsys:
The Moon has always exercised a specific influence on human behavior. Over the years, the regularity of its cycles has been a landmark for people and, at the same time, its attraction on the Earth has shrouded it in mystery. Although science has explained only a few attraction phenomena, some people still base their practices on myths and traditions about the influence of this celestial body. In the Sea of Tranquility is a dreamlike journey through time and space. Starting from the documentation of actions based on lunar rhythms and energies, it lays the foundations for a reflection on the profound separation between man and nature.
Director’s statement:
The narrative structure consists of several autonomous segments focused on the experiences of different people. The subjects are shown during their activities without interviews, to let the images speak by themselves and to enhance the rituality of their actions. The music has a key role to achieve this kind of aesthetic and it gives further expressive value. The Moon is deliberately revealed only at the end, but the short film turns out to be full of references about its light, form and surface. The circle is the symbol of totality and harmony, as well as a representation of the cyclical nature of the moon phases. This circular shape emerges insistently throughout the documentary. A voiceover appears in three different moments, guiding the narration through the main themes on which the reflection is based, such as the relationship of man with time and nature.
