6th International Documentary Festival, confirmed the venues, the artistic direction entrusted to Maurizio Nichetti, new official logo of the Festival
Milan, 7th february 2020. The long-awaited appointment with the “cinema’ du reel”, the International Documentary Festival Visioni dal Mondo, now in its sixth edition, will be held from Thursday 17th to Sunday 20th September in Milan. The Visioni dal Mondo Festival, conceived, founded and directed by Francesco Bizzarri, which for four days will transform Milan into the documentary capital for the 2020 edition, confirms, as venues of the event, the two symbolic places of the culture of Milan: the “Teatro Litta”, one of the most significant works of Lombard architecture, and the Leonardo da Vinci National Science and Technology Museum, the most important science and technology museum in Italy and one of the most important in Europe and the world. In particular, the Museum will be a cultural partner of the Festival for the development of projects and initiatives aimed at discussing science and technology also through the variety of social views and philosophical approaches that documentary cinema narrates.
The artistic direction of the 6th Festival is entrusted to Maurizio Nichetti, actor and director who in his career boasts numerous awards including three Nastri d’argento for Ratataplan (1980, Best Newcomer), Ladri di saponette (1989, Best Subject) and Luna e l’altra (1997, Best Film Director). In 1991, Nichetti received the David di Donatello for the screenplay of Volere Volare. Since 2014 he has been artistic director of the Milan branch of the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia. He also directed the Mountain Exploration and Adventure Festival of Trento and participated in several international film juries such as Berlin, Cannes, Montreal and the third edition of the International Documentary Festival Visioni dal Mondo. Maurizio Nichetti will support Francesco Bizzarri in the artistic direction of the sixth edition of the Festival. Fabrizio Grosoli, artistic director of the previous editions, will continue to collaborate with the Festival in the selection committee.
Among the new features of the Festival, the new logo. A geometric logo, simple and recognizable, that starting from the idea of uniting the continents with a line, signifies the values and mission of the event, that are to foster the culture, different languages captured by documentary cinema, the cinema du reel.
The directors are already working on the contents and structure of the sixth edition, which confirms also for 2020 the main sections: the Italian contest, the core of the Festival, aimed at young Italian filmmakers, the International contest dedicated to foreign independent productions, the festival Non Competitive section and the Industry section “Visioni Incontra”, coordinated by Cinzia Masòtina, aimed at professionals in the sector, that will be held during the first two days of the Festival, Thursday 17 and Friday 18 September. The Contest’s Rules and procedures will be communicated on Monday the 24th of February and will be available on line on the www.visionidalmondo.it web site.
Also this year, with the aim of promoting the knowledge and diffusion of Italian and international documentary cinema through a spirit of dialogue, the Festival will keep the formula open to the public, with free admission for all screenings, masterclasses and retrospectives.
