Riverboom

Concorso Internazionale

Synopsis:

Claude Baechtold’s “Riverboom” is the filmmaker’s chronicling of his trip to Afghanistan shortly after the United States military intervention in 2002.
In the year following the 9/11 terrorist attacks, young journalist Claude Baechtold finds himself in the war zone of Afghanistan, where he undertakes a tour of the entire country with two brave reporters. Serge writes articles and Paul takes photographs to document the rebirth and hopes of the Afghan people, while Claude films every moment with a curious yet fearful eye. On their journey, the three journalists cross dangerous territories, meeting extraordinary people and witnessing an unknown and complex reality. Thier experience strengthens their friendship and tests their convictions. Fifteen years later, Claude Baechtold rediscovers the tapes he entrusted to a friend, and brings back memories of that unique journey.
Using impressive archival footage, Baechtold captures the complexities of post-U.S. intervention in Afghanistan in a humorous road movie documentary, presenting a tale of war and journalism and a story of resilience, hope and friendship that spans time and memories.
