Flegrea - A future for Bagnoli
Concorso italiano – New talent opera prima
Sinopsys:
On the outskirts of the city of Naples, in a Bagnoli squeezed between the beauty of the Phlegrean coastline and the ruins of the former-Italsider steelworks, two siblings, Federica and Ciro, spend the days of their last summer as teenagers. They are two kids who grew up there, in the shadow of the blast furnace and the island of Nisida. They both know that when the summer will be over, they will have to take a decision. A choice shared by so many of their peers: stay in Bagnoli or emigrate in search of a future elsewhere.
Flegrea – A future for Bagnoli tells this story and the story of a neighborhood, of a community that does not give up.
Director’s notes:
Flegrea starts from a question: is there a link between environmental disaster and social crisis in Bagnoli? Flegrea also starts from a choice: the choice of avoiding an inquiry documentary and a storytelling only focused on the past. That’s how we got inspired by the filmmaking style of Agostino Ferrente to seek stories in a present of hope, just like the one of Ciro and Federica. Two teens, two siblings and of course two citizens of Bagnoli, like many others, fighting for a better future.
